Open Flower Network: Channeling Optimism

Pick Your Sales Channel

Jan 23, 2025

Pick-your-own, wedding design, wholesale markets… With so many possible sales channels available to flower farmers in Canada, how do you choose the options that are best for you?

It’s common to be unsure or to feel like you should be all the possible sales channels! Perhaps it’s not surprising that 70% of Canadian flower farmers plan to add a new sales channel in 2025. But how do you balance the benefits of diversification with the risk of overextending yourself?

In our latest learning session, Theresa Schumilas of Garden Party Flower Farms sat down to chat with flower farmers of different scales from across Canada as they compare their primary sales channels. If you’re debating your options or curious what others are doing, this video will walk you through the opportunities and limitations of on-farm sales, Pick Your Own, subscriptions, farmers’ markets, wedding design, direct to designers, and flower marketplace sales.

Each additional channel means more work: separate marketing, different record keeping, different order management, different harvesting, perhaps even different flowers. So I think the key here is to be selective about channels.
