Sustainable Cut Flowers, Direct from Ontario's Greenbelt
Find FlowersWe’re bringing sustainable specialty cut flowers from Ontario’s vibrant Greenbelt to florists, event planners, and wholesale buyers across the province! With support from the Greenbelt Foundation, the Sustainable Cut Flowers Direct – Greenbelt initiative is designed to strengthen the region’s promising floral supply chains, helping local flower farms to thrive, while giving buyers easier access to fresh, seasonal blooms grown close to home.
Connecting Growers with Buyers
Greenbelt Flower Directory
At the heart of the project is the new online Greenbelt Flower Directory. This free, easy-to-use tool helps buyers discover local flower farms and connect directly for ordering.
Whether you’re a florist sourcing for a wedding, an event planner looking for something special, or a wholesale buyer seeking regional partners, the directory helps you:
- Find and connect with farms near you
- Explore unique, seasonal flower offerings
- Source sustainably and locally
Expanding Opportunities Together
Wholesale Marketplaces
Online wholesale marketplaces are a game changer—for farmers and for building Ontario’s robust floral supply chain. Through these online marketplaces:
- Buyers can view, order, and coordinate to find what they need from multiple local growers in a ‘one stop’ shopping online store
- Growers can sell to multiple designers while using a single pickup location to increase their sales and reduce delivery costs
That’s why we’re working with Greenbelt flower farmers who have linked together into three collaborative selling hubs on the Open Food Network platform. Throughout the coming months, we’ll also be offering training, mentorship, and tools to help farms price effectively, build business skills, and grow with confidence.
Stay tuned as we share the stories of these blooming marketplaces. If you are a designer looking for local, sustainable flowers, contact the marketplaces directly for information on how to join!
What’s special about the Greenbelt
Sustainable flowers, close to home
While the majority of flowers sold in Canada are imported, homegrown alternatives are rapidly gaining ground! With over 2 million acres of protected farmland, the Greenbelt is home to a thriving community of small and mid-scale farms, most of them led by women and gender-diverse growers.
These passionate Greenbelt farmers are perfectly positioned to serve the Greater Toronto Area with beautiful, low-impact blooms that are:
- Grown in open fields and greenhouses using sustainable methods
- Harvested fresh and delivered locally for unmatched quality and reduced environmental impact
- Varied and unique, including native blooms that reflect Ontario’s natural beauty and changing seasons.
