LiteFarm Partnership
Here at Open Food Network Canada, we are delighted to announce our new partnership with farm management app, LiteFarm. Designed as a tech solution for the management of sustainable and diversified farms, LiteFarm shares Open Food Network’s community-driven approach to open-source tech development.
Like Open Food Network, LiteFarm has been created as a public good and developed with an open source license. And what separates LiteFarm from the other tools on the market, is that LiteFarm is built to tackle the multifaceted financial, social, and ecological challenges that all sustainable and diversified farms face.
As such, LiteFarm offers a comprehensive suite of farm management tools that can help farms chart their journey toward financial sustainability, biodiversity restoration, and the production of healthy and nutritious food.
In recent months, the LiteFarm team had been working diligently to bring users a series of great new features, and the platform now allows users to:
- Create unlimited custom crop varieties, building from a new database of over 375 different crop types
- Create crop management plans for hundreds of annuals and perennials, including special considerations for cover crops, wild harvested foods, succession planting, and agroforestry practices
- Create and assign tasks for many different farm activities to anyone working on your farm and keep track of when tasks are completed in real time
- Upload documents and receipts from a file or directly from your smartphone’s camera to LiteFarm in order to keep your finances and organic certification documents organized
- Export organic and agroecological certification documents containing your farm map, crop, input, and cleaning agent records, as well as receipts and supporting documents you’ve uploaded throughout the season
At Open Food Network we are really excited about this platform. In the coming months we will be exploring an interoperability project with the LiteFarm team that will help give sustainable farmers deeper insights from field to market.
Once integrated, participating farms will be able to manage on-farm production, inventory management, distribution, and marketing seamlessly from a single log in. Integrations will also allow participating farms to give consumers detailed insights into the ecological footprint of their food (i.e. certifications) opening up next generation marketing opportunities for participating farms.
As a project at the University of British Columbia, The LiteFarm app is free to use, and users data will never be commercialized without consent. For more information about the project or to request a demo, please reach out to .
If you are a producer, a market manager, or a researcher who is interested in learning more about the interoperability project please reach out to for more details.
